Girl Scout Programs


April 10th
Girls will earn the following Try – It or Junior Badges: Spatacular Me, Fashion, Pink Princess Staying True Try – It’s and Badges will be mailed. Brownies and Juniors will be separated, but will run at the same time. Adults who wish to volunteer will receive one girl’s entry at $8.
Time: 1p – 3p Cost: $16 Ages: 5 – 10

May 1st

Chess Camp:

Spend a week playing and learning about chess from the Silver Knights chess coaches!  Our coaches are highly-rated professional chess instructors.  Activities include learning openings, tactics, studying master games, and more. For more information, see our website at www.silverknightschess.com.

Art Camp

Workshop focuses on painting techniques using safe non-toxic acrylic paints and canvas paper, canvas board and stretched canvas. Bring a nut free lunch and beverage.  A materials fee of $20 is due to the instructor (checks payable to Abrakadoodle).

Cheer Camp at Cheer Dynasty

This Camp focuses on the fundamentals of cheer-stunting, tumbling, motions, dance, jumps, strength and flexibility. Campers will learn a routine that will be performed the last day of camp that incorporates all the skills they have learn during the week. Camp is held at Cheer Dynasty Gym in Manassas, located at 10689 Wakeman Ct. Manassas, Va 20110

CRIME SCENE AND CHEMISTRY! – Full Day
Mad Science introduces you to life in the form of cells and organs and to how the science behind life can help you solve a crime!  Discover the secrets behind batteries and design marshmallow molecules!  Conduct electricity and power a Mad Science whirligig.  Experience blood pumping through the heart and air moving through the lungs.  Use ooey-gooey ingredients to build a model cell & use your own traits to decode & decipher your DNA. CHILDREN’S ACTIVITIES AND PROGRAMS
We offer three larger programs at our Center that are more involved than our mini-programs. Playschool runs from September-May and Tae Kwon Do runs year-round. Our Children’s Dance program offers classes during the year as well as during the summer. New this summer – additional summer dance workshops for children as well as adults!

CHILDREN’S DANCE

With more than 40 years of combined experience, our head instructors, Miss Bonnie and Miss Lisa, are a mother-daughter team that have taught many of the mothers, daughters and sons in the local community. The Spotlight Dance program has been a fixture in Manassas for many years. Your child will love to dance, and you will enjoy seeing how much your child has learned.

Pre-Ballet and Pre-Tap classes are available for 2 - 4 year-old children and our year-long program is for children ages 4 –18
 

Pre Ballet And Tap  Ages: 2-4 years old.

Emphasis will be placed on learning the “basics” and developing a memory of dance steps. Participants have the opportunity to socialize with other children and experience sense of accomplishment through excellent instruction. Students need to wear leotard, tights, and proper shoes. Boys may wear t-shits or workout clothes. All students must be potty trained. 12-30min. Classes

Adult Tap Classes

Tap Dancing is not just for the kids any more! Learn basic tap technique and improve your rhythm, coordination and flexibility. A low impact program that benefits the cardiovascular system. 12-45min classes.Level 1 class requires no prior dance experience. Level 2 requires a successful completion of level 1.

Ballet, Pointe, Tap, Jazz, and Hip Hop Classes Yearlong:

Ballet and Tap classes are available for 4 – 18 year-old children. Jazz classes are available to children ages 7 – 18. Pointe classes are available by instructor placement only. Our yearlong program began in September 2009 and will end in May with the 39th Annual Spotlight Dance Recital, which will be held at local high school in May. Please check back for specific times and admission information)

Ben Lomond Community Center is also the home of the Spotlight Dance Company. The Spotlight Dance Company is an award-winning, competitive, intensive dance program that pushes it’s participants to that next step, but also focuses on the fun of dance. Auditions for Spotlight Dance Company will be held following the upcoming dance recital in June. Please check back in May for audition information. Please keep in mind that Dance Company requires 4 or more years of Ballet, Tap, and Jazz.

 Come join the most fun and educational Playschool program in town!
 
Designed for children ages 3 – 5, the Ben Lomond Community Center Playschool Program will more than prepare your child for kindergarten. Your child will learn basic skills including: the alphabet, numbers, shapes, color recognition, writing and cutting, phonics, early math, early reading, science, and more.
 
Your child will also enjoy music, story time, games, daily crafts, and a nutritious snack. All children are encouraged to participate in our weekly “Fit Kids” exercise program. We also offer ever-changing choices of Free Play activities to stimulate and excite active imaginations.
 
All children must meet entrance age requirements by September 30, 2009. 
All children must be potty trained. You must provide copies of your child’s birth certificate, Physical Examination, Immunization Records, and a completed Student Information Packet no later than the 1st day of class.
 
We offer three Playschool classes – a morning program for 3 year-olds, a morning program for 4 and 5 year-olds, and an afternoon program for 4 and 5 year-olds.
